My Song Choice

My Song choice
I have chosen the song; Downtown by Petula Clark
I have chosen this song as I believe it allows me to further my editing skills and software usage as I will be attempting to show a vast array of nightime footage featuring buildings of a high rise sort and thsus showing my ability to make this all as visible as possible. This song has also been chosen as I find the lyrics to be helpfull in telling a story, thus confirming my choice of a narrative music video.

Preliminary Task - Hip-Hop Poster

When I think of Hip-Hop, I primarily think of the connotations of rap and street music. Therefore I wanted a sense of street features in my poster, so I used the background of a graffiti covered brick wall which is an often seen feature with rap artists due to its connotations of tough street backgrounds. The idea of graffiti was furthered developed with my style of writing 'Flush with Cash' which was the albums name and having it presented as a piece of graffiti spray paint just sprayed on over the album cover, giving the poster a feel of vandalism, suggesting the content inside may be improper. I heightened this notion by having the classic 'Parental Advisory Explicit Content' sticker on there to give an extra feel of rudeness and also fit many hip hop albums which have this moniker. A final example of this is the censored middle finger shown by one of my subjects, I did this to show a blatant example of public swearing but the censoring of it, making people feel obliged to pull the censor symbol off and see it without. It adds to my subjects character too of being an artist with a disregard for appearances, once again another feature commonly seen with hip hop artists within the particular genre I was aiming for.

Preliminary Task - Digi-Pack

I decided to incorporate the rock gesture known as 'Sign of the horns' in my rock cover simply because it can be argued as the most easily identifiable symbol of rock. I was able to create a saturated colour effect on this cover too which made it look somewhat comic book like which is an often seen contemporary rock feature. That coupled with a photoshoped mouse onto the faces of my two subjects gives the cover a strange and unconventional feel. Other features such as the record company logo as well as the short review with stars are both classic features on any album and makes the cover look far more authentic.

I decided to include the same effects in terms of colour saturation for the back of the album as I think its important to keep a sense of continuity and theme with both sides, very rarely do a cover and back feature different themes. Again the added bar-code was to once more add a greater feel of realism to the backing as this is seen on any album you would buy in any store. A point to make too is the red effect that can be seen under the danger sign, this was done for the simple purpose of allowing the text to be seen over it, also red was chosen due to its connotations of blood, giving it a rock feel.
